The Grid is a 3x3 board. Each of the three rows and three columns is a club or a nationality. Tap a cell, type a footballer who fits both, and the cell turns green if they qualify. The player has to have played for both clubs, or be of that nationality and have played for that club. Loan spells count, as long as they made an appearance.
You get five wrong answers. A wrong answer is a real player who does not fit the cell. A name we cannot find is not a wrong answer, so you can guess again. Once the fifth wrong answer lands, the board locks and we show you a valid answer for every cell you missed.
Every correct cell scores points, and the points scale with how obscure the pick is. A club legend who everyone would name scores the least. A two-season squad player scores the most. The idea is that filling nine cells with the obvious names is a decent score, but the people at the top of the board are the ones who remember the reserve keeper. Your points bank to your account total and count towards the daily and all-time leaderboards.
The grid resets at midnight UK time. Everyone gets the same grid, and you get one scored attempt. When you finish, share your result as a 3x3 emoji block and compare with your mates. The board is seeded from the date, so a friend in another timezone sees the same grid once their clock ticks over.
Our own database covers 50 top clubs from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 and tens of thousands of career records. If you name a player we do not have, we check Wikidata live, so an obscure answer still counts as long as the career record exists there.
Yes. If a player made an appearance for the club, on loan or permanent, the answer is valid.
No caps needed. Nationality cells use the player's nationality as recorded on their career profile. Dual nationals count for either.
One scored attempt per day. You can still view the board after you finish, and yesterday's answers stay visible until the reset.
