The imposter is never random. He played in the same league as the club, in the same era as the other four, so you cannot just pick the odd one out by age or nationality. You need to actually know who played where.
The four real names all played at least 40 league games for the club. The imposter played in that league at the same time and never appeared for the club in any competition. Careers come from Transfermarkt records covering the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Eredivisie and Liga Portugal.
Loan spells are the trap. A player you think was a one-club man may have spent a season at the club in question, and a player you are sure was there may only have been linked. When two names look wrong, the one who played for the club's biggest rival is usually the imposter.
