How to play One-Two

Two footballers. Name a third who played with both of them. That's the one-two. It has to be the same club in the same season, so a player who joined the year after one of them left does not count. National teams do not count either. Club football only.

There are five pairs a day and they get harder. The first pair usually has ten or more players who link them. The last pair might have one or two. You have three lives across all five rounds. A name that did not play with both costs a life, and we tell you which half he missed. If you are stuck, skip the round and keep your lives for the next one.

Scoring and streaks

Every round solved scores 20 points. Name a deep cut, a player most people would never think of, and you get 10 more. Solve three or more of the five to keep your streak. At the end of each round we show you other players who would have worked, so you learn the links for next time.

How the links are checked

Our teammate database is built from Transfermarkt: every club-season squad for 26,000 players with 20 or more top-flight appearances, from the early 1990s to 2025-26, plus every Premier League squad for 2026-27, with each player tracked by a unique id so two players with the same name never get mixed up. Players are linked when they were in the same squad in the same season. The daily pairs are generated from league appearances only, so every pair has at least one answer that is a real on-pitch teammate.

Tips

Think about the clubs where both careers overlap in time, not just the clubs they share. Loan spells count. Big clubs with high turnover, like Chelsea, Real Madrid and Juventus, are your friends. So are journeymen: a player with ten clubs links almost anyone.
